As we were planning the trip to CA, we decided to get pictures of all the Capitols in the US. So on 10/02/2008, we visited our first State Capitol and it was Annapolis, MD. The MD Capitol is the oldest Capitol in use by the government and it was the US Capitol from 11/26/1783 to 08/13/1784. It dates back to 1772.
On 10/14/2005, we left the Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park MD and drove to Country Waye RV Resort in Luray, VA for a Mason Dixon Discovery Rally. While there the group toured Luray Caverns. All of the group enjoyed the tour.
Our next stop was to Shenandoah Crossing Resort in Gordonsville, VA on 10/17/2005. We had a relaxing time for 2 days before we left for ODW Williamsburg Resort in Norge, VA on 10/19/2005. While there we celebrated our wedding anniversary by having dinner at Outback. Our second Capitol was Richmond, VA on 10/30/2005. The VA Capitol was being renovated when we saw it. It was finished being built in 1788 and is over 215 years old. It houses the oldest legislative body in the US, The Virginia General Assembly which dates to Jamestown settlement in 1607.
After a 2 week stay in the Williamsburg area, we left for Lake Gaston AmeriComps in Bracey, VA on 11/02/2005. On 11/06/2005, we visited NC Capitol in Raleigh, NC. The Capitol was completed in 1840. A week later on 11/09/2005, we arrived at TT Forest Lake Resort in Advance, NC. We had a quiet week
Then on 11/16/2005, we moved on to Cedar Pond Campground in Leesville, SC where we visited SC Capitol in Columbia, SC. The Capitol was started in 1855. The construction was slowed during the Civil War and suspended in 1865 as General Sherman’s army entered the city. The Capitol was not destroyed by Sherman and the building was completed in 1907.
We continued our journey to Riverside Estates RV Park in Covington, GA on 11/23/2005. While in Covington, GA, we visited the Capitol of GA in Atlanta, GA on 11/27/2005. The picture is of the West Side of Capitol. The GA Capitol was completed in 1889.
