2007-1129 FL Trip

We began our trip to FL on 11/29/2007 by staying a week at Lake Gaston Club Resort in Gasburg, VA. Our next stop was on 12/06/2007 at Sleepy Bear’s RV Park in Lumberton, NC for another week.

Fort Frederica NM Fort Magazine

We continued our travels on 12/13/2007 to stay at Comfort Inn St. George RV Park in St. George, SC. Then on 12/20/2007 we drove to Golden Isles Vacation Park in Brunswick, GA. While there on 12/22/2007 we visited Fort Frederica National Monument and Saint Simons Island Lighthouse both in St. Simons Island, GA. Georgia’s fate was decided in 1742 when Spanish and British forces clashed on St. Simons Island. Fort Frederica’s troops defeated the Spanish, ensuring Georgia’s future as a British colony. Today, the archeological remnants of Frederica are protected by the National Park Service. On May 26, 1936, President F.D. Roosevelt signed Fort Frederica’s Enabling Legislation. However Fort Frederica wasn’t established as a National Monument until September 10, 1945. The picture is of Fort Frederica National Monument Fort Magazine.

Saint Simons Island Lighthouse

The beautiful two-story, brick keepers’ dwelling and the white, 104-foot tower on St. Simons Island today seem like the idyllic light station. Such was not always the case. Stagnant ponds on the island provided the perfect breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes. The station was considered isolated before being linked to the mainland, and one of the head keepers was murdered on the lighthouse grounds. Gould completed the seventy-five-foot tower in late 1810 at a cost of $13,775. Oil lamps suspended on chains served as the light source. The picture is of Saint Simons Island Lighthouse. More info on the lighthouses can be seen at

Fort King George SHS Block House

Then on 12/23 we visited Fort King George State Historical Site in Darien, GA. From 1721 until 1736, Fort King George was the southern outpost of the British Empire in North America. A cypress blockhouse, barracks and palisaded earthen fort were constructed in 1721 by Scott men led by Colonel John “Tuscarora Jack” Barnwell. Christmas 5 Little Ones

We added something different with our Christmas Cards this year. Christmas is about miracles, and Pam talked about two miracles that occurred recently in her life. She wanted to know if others had had miracles in their lives. She had some positive responses.

Christmas Cindy Emilie

Also, while at Golden Isles Vacation Park in Brunswick, GA, we celebrated Christmas by taking special pictures of Little Clifford, Andrew, Abigail, Katrina, Pixie, Emily, Cindy, and gifts on the picnic table.

On 12/27/2007 we stop at Casey Jones Campground in Lake City, FL for a week. We had RV serviced on 12/28/2007. We toasted in the New Year as usual with a Root Beer Float.
