Jean Lafitte NHPP Acadian Cultural Center

We traveled on 12/10/2008 to Maxie’s Campground in Broussard, LA just south of Lafayette LA. We stayed for 12 days. While at Maxie’s we visited Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve / Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, LA on 12/13/2008. This unit of the park tells stories of the origins, migration, settlement, and contemporary culture of the Acadians (Cajuns) and other area groups in a museum setting. Vermilionville Heritage Park

On 12/14/2008 we visited the Vermilionville Heritage Park also in Lafayette, LA. Vermilion Ville authentically portrays a way of life preserved with a distinctly French accent. Situated on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion, this Cajun/Creole heritage and folklife park recreates life in the Acadiana area between 1765 and 1890. The beautiful grounds, which are laid out as an historic village, contain eighteen structures, including six restored original homes. In most of the structures, costumed interpreters demonstrate traditional crafts or musical styles. The picture is of serval buildings in the park.

Vermilionville Heritage Park Abigail Papa Noel

Vermilionville was having their Christmas visitation by Papa Noel, the French version of Santa. The Picture is of Abigail with Papa Noel.

We drove to Eunice, LA on 12/20/2008 to visit Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve / Prairie Acadian Cultural Center. This unit of the park discover the life of Louisiana’s prairie Cajuns in a museum setting. The picture is of the Museum at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center.

OCP Abita Springs RV Resort Christmas Potluck Abigail

On 12/22/2008 we traveled to Ocean Canyon Properties Abita Springs RV Resort in Abita Springs, LA for two weeks. We spent Christmas and New Year there in Abita Springs, LA. The picture is of Abigail at the Christmas Pot Luck Dinner.

Jean Lafitte NHPP Chalmette Battlefield Batteries 5 & 6

We drove to Jean Lafitte Historic Park and Preserve / Chalmette Battlefield in Chalmette, LA on 12/27/20008. This battle goes by a more common name, Battle of New Orleans. This battle occurred during the War of 1812, on 01/08/1815 just 15 days after the officially ended on 12/24/1814. The battle took less than two hours and the major fighting confined to about 30 minutes. The picture is of a Cannon at US Battery 5.

Jean Lafitte NHPP Chalmette Battlefield Battery4 Abigail

The picture is of Abigail on a Naval Cannon. Andrew Jackson had use of such a cannon at the Battle of New Orleans.

Jean Lafitte NHPP French Quarter

On 12/28/2008 we visited Jean Lafitte Historic Park and Preserve / French Quarter in New Orleans, LA. This unit of the park looks at the French Quarter of New Orleans. The city was founded in 1718. The distinctive look of the 66 block is due to the architectural styles developed during the 1700s and 1800s. The picture is of the Courtyard at the Visitors Center.

New Orleans Jackson Square St Louis Cathedral

The picture is of the Jackson Square with the Saint Louis Cathedral in background. The square is in the center of the French Quarter just off the Mississippi River.
