On 05/05/2010 we started back to DC with our first stop at Casey Jones’ RV Park in Lake City FL. The Picture is a roadside sign we saw on 05/06/2010 heading north on I75.
The picture is of a Navy A7 Attack Fighter near the above roadside sign.
On 05/09/2010 we drove down to Gainesville, FL to see the Battle of Gainesville Marker. There seems to be two battles that occurred in Gainesville. The first was on 2/14/1864 where a unit of Union troops defeated a Confederate Cavalry unit. The second was a larger battle that occurred on 8/17/1864 where 200 t0 300 Union troops were routed by 600 to 800 Confederate troops. The Picture is of the Battle Historic Marker.
Southern Trails RV Resort in Unadilla, GA. We visited Jefferson Davis State Historical Site in Irwinville, GA on 05/15/2010. The President of the Confederate, Jefferson Davis, was captured on 05/10/1865 in the morning. Two separate Union cavalry units unaware of each other surrounded Davis camp. The 4th Michigan Cavalry took Davis and moments later men of the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry were scouting Davis camp and shooting began and lasted several minutes before the two Union units realized they were shooting at each other. Davis was taken to Fort Monroe in Virginia. The picture is of Jefferson Davis Monument which marks the spot where Davis was captured.
We drove to Warm Springs, GA to visit the Roosevelt’s Little White House and Pool on 05/16/2010. FDR had the Little White House built in 1932 hoping for a cure for polio that struck him in 1921. Swimming in 88 degrees, Bouyant Spring waters brought him no miracle cure, but it did bring improvement. FDR died here at the Little White House on 4/12/1945. You can tour the vacation home, the guest house, and servants’ quarters. The picture is of the Little White House from between the servant quarters and guest house.
The Historic pools and museum can also be toured. The picture is of the middle pool.
When we had returned to the RV, some tree limbs had come down just missing the RV. The car, if it been there, would have been hit. Luckily, we were out site seeing.
